Dromintee Primary School

Dromintee Primary School is a modern, purpose-built facility that was officially completed in 2010. This new building project was part of a wider capital investment initiative led by the Department of Education, recognising the need for updated, high-quality educational infrastructure in the community.

The building is designed to blend seamlessly into its rural surroundings while delivering a bright, modern, and sustainable learning environment. Constructed on a sloped site adjacent to the original school, the project required a carefully managed cut-and-fill strategy to establish level platforms for the building and outdoor play spaces.

As one of the first schools in Northern Ireland built to BREEAM environmental standards, sustainability was central to the design. The building features solar panels, grey water recycling, and natural ventilation, all working together to reduce energy use and environmental impact.

Classrooms were designed as double-height spaces to maximise natural light and airiness, creating uplifting environments that support wellbeing and focus. Externally, the architecture reflects local rural forms with a modern edge carefully considered materials and landscaping root the school in its place while looking confidently to the future
