Ballymoney Library

The Ballymoney Library EnerPHit retrofit project stands as a landmark achievement in sustainable public building design, marking the first public building refurbishment in the UK completed to the rigorous EnerPHit standard. This standard, developed by the Passivhaus Institute, focuses on retrofitting existing buildings to achieve high energy efficiency, ensuring older structures meet modern energy performance values

Refurbishment was supported by the Department for Communities and the Department for the Economy’s Energy Invest to Save Programme 2023/24, aiming to set a new benchmark for sustainability and energy efficiency in public buildings.

The successful completion of the Ballymoney Library refurbishment has been acknowledged as a pathfinder in sustainable public building design. The project has also been shortlisted in the Construction Employers Federation (CEF) excellence awards, highlighting its exemplary approach to energy efficiency and community service .
