Clooney Terrace Environmental Improvement Scheme
The Clooney Cannon Project is a heritage-led regeneration initiative located beside All Saints Church on Clooney Terrace in Derry/Londonderry.
Funded by the Department for Communities and delivered in partnership with Derry City & Strabane District Council, the Bonds Street Community Association, and All Saints Church of Ireland, the project revitalized a historic cannon site through extensive restoration and landscaping.
Improvements included the restoration of the cannon and carriage, new seating, railings, pathway and lighting upgrades, and the installation of an interpretation panel to highlight the site's historical significance. Officially reopened in November 2023, the transformed area now serves as a welcoming public space that enhances community pride, accessibility, and local heritage awareness.
The project has been honoured with the prestigious RTPI Northern Ireland Award for Planning Excellence 2025 in the category of Excellence in Planning for Heritage and Culture.
